Certification

At Sustainable Forest Systems, Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification is a cornerstone of our operations. FSC certification ensures that forests are managed responsibly, products are traceable from origin to market, and customers can trust that the materials they purchase come from well-managed forests.

What FSC Certification Means

FSC certification has two key components:

  1. Forest Management Certification – Verifies that our forest management practices meet rigorous environmental, social, and economic standards.

  2. Chain-of-Custody Certification – Confirms that our manufacturing facilities can trace raw materials from the forest to the final product, ensuring full transparency for our customers.

Our FSC Milestones

  • 1997, Paraguay: Our Yaguarete Forest investment became one of the first FSC-certified natural forests in Latin America. This included both forest management and chain-of-custody certification.

  • Bolivia Operations: We certified 150,000 hectares of our own forest concessions—long-term timber management areas awarded by the Bolivian government.

  • Community & Indigenous Support: Helped 400,000 hectares of community and indigenous lands move toward FSC certification, promoting sustainable management practices.

  • Manufacturing Certification: Successfully certified a chain-of-custody sawmill in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, ensuring our products meet the highest standards of traceability and sustainability.

Why FSC

Certification Matters

FSC certification guarantees that our operations:

  • Protect biodiversity and ecosystems

  • Uphold the rights of indigenous peoples and local communities

  • Follow sustainable harvesting practices

  • Provide customers and investors with transparency and confidence in the origin of our products

By adhering to FSC standards, we combine responsible forest management with market integrity, ensuring that sustainability is at the heart of everything we do.
